Robert E. Dow was born October 31, 1943 in Oakland, California and mover to Branford, Connecticut in 1946. he graduated from Hopkins Grammer School in New Haven, Connecticut in 1962. He graduated from Duke University in 1967 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering while playing varsity football.
Upon graduating, he worked for Armstrong Contracting & Supply Company, a division of Armstrong Cork Company, as a Sales and Field Service Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts.
An honor graduate in the United States Army Engineer Officer Candidate Program in 1968, he served about three years with the Corps of Engineers, including assignments as Instructor, Advance Engineer Officer Training Center, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Aide-de-Camp Commander USA Mobility Equipment Command, St. Louis, Missouri and one year as Platoon Leader and Commander in South Vietnam.
In 1971, Dow joined H. Pearce company, as an Associate selling and leasing commercial and industrial real estate in Southern Connecticut. In 1975, he was appointed Regional Development Manager for Baker Properties, a firm based in Stamford, Connecticut. After a short period as President of Dow Crafts, Inc., a family owned distribution business, Dow returned to the H. Pearce Company in 1978, again selling and leasing commercial and industrial properties throughout Southern Connecticut.
In 1983, Dow Realty was formed. The firm has grown to a full service commercial/industrial investment real estate brokerage frim with four full-time, licensed professional sales people, and a property manager. The firm holds memberships in the Greater New Haven Board of Realtors, New Haven Commercial Investment Division, National and Connecticut Associates of Realtors and the Greater New Haven and Branford Chambers of Commerce.
Dow has acted as a consultant, as well as a broker, representing both buyers and sellers as well as landlords and tenants in all types of commercial real estate transactions, including sale-lease transactions, tax deferred exchanges and many types of financing.
He also has been involved in investment, development and management of many types of properties, including business/industrial parks, commercial, investment and office buildings throughout Southern Connecticut.
Mr. Dow is active in many community affairs. His past and present participation includes an active member of the New Haven Rotary Club (Past President and Paul Harris Fellow), a Director for the Quinnipiac Council, Boy Scouts of America, Greater New Haven and Guilford YMCA Boards of Managers, the Greater New Haven Goodwill Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center Executive Board, and Commodore of the Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club. He is presently on the Board of Directors of the New Haven Community Investment Corporation, Branford Economic Development commission and the Real Estate Board of the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CREC).
Mr. Dow resides in Branford, Connecticut with his wife Lynne. They have two grown children; Jeffrey and Jennifer. His interests include skiing, sailing, tennis, golf and reading.
